Trails
Privately— a private journey to Armenia's main autumn trail festival

Five days across Armenia built around the Yell Sport Fest trail festival. Culture, food, curated Tavush locations, and Saturday's start as the culmination of the whole week. A small group, a private curator, everything on the ground handled.

RegionTavush, Armenia

First — Armenia.
Tavush, monasteries, wineries,
the calm rhythm of autumn.
And on Saturday — the trail.

Trails Privately is the ARMENIA Privately line where a landmark sporting event anchors the journey. The start becomes the culmination of a carefully built week: cultural, gastronomic, restorative. You choose your own pace and distance. ARMENIA Privately handles everything else.

Tavush in October — golden beech forests, morning mist over the ridges, and trails hidden from tourist routes.
Six pillars

What this journey is built from

1.

Discovering Tavush

Armenia's northern region in autumn dress: golden beech forests, monasteries in morning mist, late-season grapes in the valleys. A route beyond the classic tourist trail.

2.

The start as a culmination

A Saturday race the whole week leads up to. By start time You are settled in, well fed and in form, so You step onto the course fresh and run for pleasure.

3.

Freedom of distance

From 6 to 40 kilometres, Your choice, agreed in advance. The 6 km is open to anyone who walks regularly. The 15 km suits a runner with a steady weekly habit. The 40 km is a serious mountain race and assumes trail experience.

4.

Premium support

A curator for the entire journey, private transport, race registration, all meals, curated locations. One point of contact from arrival to departure.

5.

Gastronomy and wineries

Signature Armenian cooking, the local Tavush wine list, winery tastings, family tables with local produce. The food is a reason to come in its own right.

6.

Quiet

A small group, locations away from the tourist flow, morning light in the monasteries. Space for impressions, and time to Yourself.

Journey program

Five days. Four nights. One start.

22–26 October 2026. Every day prepares for the next, and Saturday is the day of the challenge.

Sevan, Dilijan, Haghartsin

Sevan → Dilijan → Haghartsin → Dilijan

North after breakfast, with a short stop at the Sevan pass to see the lake in autumn light. Down into Dilijan, sometimes called Armenia's Switzerland: a walk through town, coffee, an unhurried pace. Lunch in a small local kitchen.

In the afternoon, Haghartsin monastery in the forest. Twelfth century, three churches, a vaulted narthex, a vast mulberry grove and acoustics that stop conversation. Quiet, and the sense of being somewhere very old.

Back to Dilijan by evening and check in. Early dinner, rest before the start.

Yell Sport Fest · race day

Dilijan → Yenokavan → Dilijan

Early departure to Yenokavan. Briefing, bib pickup, gear check. The festival starts on the Yell Extreme Park meadow. You choose Your distance in advance:

Yell-6
6 km · +400 m
Through cliffs, caves and autumn forest. For anyone who wants to try the format.
Apaga-15
15 km · +1,000 m
The best balance of technical running and views.
Okon-40
40 km · +2,300 m
Through the Okon and Khachaghbyur canyons. For experienced trail runners.
Travelling with a runner

Not running? Saturday is built for You too.

You travel together, You are at the finish together, and in between You have Your own day rather than a wait.

  • 07:30

    Depart Dilijan with the group.

  • 08:30

Arrive at Yenokavan. Runners head to the briefing and the start.

  • 09:00

    Your morning, chosen in advance:

Lastiver

A guided walk down into the gorge to the waterfall and the old cave dwellings carved into the rock. About three hours there and back, moderate effort — the best walk in the region.

The heights of Yenokavan

The via ferrata across the cliff face with a guide, or the zipline over the gorge. Two to three hours, no experience needed.

Horses

A ride through the high pastures above the resort. Suits families.

Dilijan crafts

Back down to Sharambeyan street for a ceramics or woodcarving workshop, and lunch in town.

  • 13:00

    Lunch on the festival meadow.

  • 13:30

At the finish as Your runner comes through.

  • PM

The festival together: expo, music, local food.

Every option is guided and included. You choose when You book.

Your curator meets You at the finish with cold drinks and food. In the afternoon, the festival on the meadow: expo, music, local food, an optional zipline flight.

Back to Dilijan by evening. Dinner with a Tavush wine tasting, a table with mountain views, in the mood of the finish.

25 OctoberDay 4

Back to Yerevan via Goshavank and Sevan

Dilijan → Goshavank → Sevan → Yerevan

After breakfast, out of Dilijan. First stop is Goshavank, deliberately saved for the return so it is not lost in the shadow of Haghartsin. A quiet medieval monastery and the right pace for the morning after a race.

Then Lake Sevan. Lunch on the shore: Sevan trout, water and mountains. A slow day, which is exactly what recovery looks like.

Yerevan by evening and check in. Farewell dinner at one of the city's best kitchens.

— Night in Yerevan
Monday
26 OctoberDay 5

Yerevan through the details

Yerevan

After breakfast, a cultural programme through Yerevan's museums: collections, manuscripts, and a curated look at Armenian art and how Armenians see themselves. The route is shaped around the group's interests.

The coffee places locals actually go to. Lunch somewhere atmospheric in the old city.

Transfer to Zvartnots on Your own flight schedule.

Safety and support

If something goes wrong

A curator is with the group every day, and on race day we are at the start and at the finish.

Every guest is covered by our partners for medical assistance and evacuation, including from remote terrain. We also work with Helicopters Armenia, so air evacuation is available where it is needed.

Armenia is among the ten safest countries in the world, and distances are short. The nearest hospital to the race area is under an hour away, and Yerevan is under two.

The Trails Privately guest

This journey is for You if…

An active life is a deliberate choice for You

Sport is part of Your rhythm, and in travel You want more than a standard route: events, challenge, movement.

Comfort matters

Logistics, bookings, race registration, coordination — all handled by Your curator. You focus on the experience.

A trip among Your own people

A private departure with friends or family, from two guests. A small group of up to eight. A journey that becomes a shared story.

Armenia through the details

Haghartsin and Goshavank in morning light, a Tavush wine tasting, a mulberry grove, trout on the shore of Sevan.

Practical notes

Getting here and what to expect

Visas
Citizens of the United States enter Armenia visa-free and may stay up to 180 days. No paperwork before departure.
Flights
Yerevan connects through Paris, Vienna, Doha, Dubai and Istanbul. Most travellers from the East Coast arrive with one stop.
Weather
Late October in Tavush runs roughly 18–22 °C (64–72 °F) by day and near freezing at night in the mountains. Dry and clear more often than not. This is the week the beech forest turns.
Distances
Yerevan to Dilijan is about ninety minutes. Nothing on this route involves a long drive.
Altitude
Yenokavan sits at around 1,100 m and the trails climb from there. No acclimatisation needed; the first day in Yerevan does the work.
Food
Armenian cooking is largely vegetable and herb based, so vegetarian and vegan travellers are well served. We agree menus with each venue in advance and collect dietary requirements before arrival.
